Create a photo collage with Photoshop elements

This  is a good way to merge several photos together. In this post, I’ve merged three photos together, but you can use more. I’ve used this technique using photoshop elements, but you can also use earlier editions of elements.

Step 1

First, open your first photo in the editer-this will be the base for your collage.

step1

step 2

In the full edit mode you will need to have the ‘float all in windows’  box checked. You’ll find this under windows-images-float all in windows, as shown below.

step 2

step 3

Now open the next photo that you want to add to your collage then click on the move tool at the top of the tools column, or just press V.

step 3

step 4

Now click and drag  this photo onto your base or background photo. You will need to use the handles of the cropping border to resize the photo, then just position it where you want it. It will now appear on its own layer (layer one) in the layers palette  as shown below.

step 4

step 5

Click on the add layer mask icon at the bottom of the layers palette, this will add a layer mask to your new layer, as shown below. Now press D then X to set your foreground colour to black.

step 5

step 6

Next, you need the gradient tool-just press G, now press enter to get the gradient picker. Choose the  foreground to transparent gradient (second left at the top) then press enter again to close the picker.

step 6

step 7

Now click the gradient tool on the edge of the top photo and drag towards the opposite edge (on mine I clicked on the left of the guitar photo and dragged it to the far right) if it doesn’t look right, just press Ctrl-Z  to undo and then try again.

step 7

step 8

As in step 3, open the next photo that you want to add to your collage then click on the move tool.

step 8

step 9

Once again, click and drag your photo onto your background photo.

step 9

step 10

Click on the add layer mask icon again.

step 10

step 11

Now repeat step 7 by clicking on the gradient tool on the edge of the top photo that you just opened and drag it to the opposite edge. If you want to add other photos just click and drag them onto your collage, don’t forget to add a layer mask for each photo.

step 11

After editing
