Here’s a new lens from Canon released in December just in time for your Christmas stocking: The EF 24-70mm f/4L IS USM is the latest addition to Canon’s premium L-series designed for use by both professional and amateur photographers.
Combining an everyday focal range with Canon’s premium L-series lens construction, a new macro function optimizes the placement of lens groups during macro photography, allowing shooting at a maximum magnification of 0.7x thus reducing the need for photographers to carry additional macro lenses.
The EF 24-70mm f/4L IS USM is also the latest lens to feature Hybrid IS, delivering sharp, blurr-free photos at any distance, including at macro focal lengths.
Meanwhile, the new f4 lens does have a valuable feature that the f2.8 models lack – image stabilization. More specifically, Canon’s Hybrid IS compensates for lateral motion of the lens, and also for changes in the angle it is pointed.
