1600mm Leica lens is Worlds most expensive

Costing $2,000,000 (about £1.25 million) the Leica APO-Telyt-R 1600mm f/5.6 zoom lens is the worlds most expensive (think you might want a tripod for this one!)

But if you’re thinking about buying a couple you’d be disappointed, this is a one-off created especially for Sheikh Saud Bin Mohammed Al-Thani of Qatar.

The photo above is the prototype which is in the Leica factory showroom. Not a great deal is known about this lens except that it fits the Leica R-mount, is 1.2 meters long (1.55 with lens hood), has a maximum diameter of 42cm and weighs 60kg (that’s about 132lb)

Sheikh Al-Thani also had a Mercedes four wheel drive commissioned specially to drive the lens around and add as a support. Yeah, well I have a ford focus to drive my EF70-200mm around!.
